HICKSVILLE

Named after Valentine Hicks, son of an abolitionist and quaker preacher, who was the president of the LIRR. He purchased land in the village in 1834 to create the LIRR station that today is the major transportation hub for all Long Island Railroad routes. It continued to flourish after the World Wars as the population grew and baby boomers were born. Today it is still a central location for business, residence and commerce.
